A mascot’s life might be challenging. In Cleveland, Brownie the Elf is prominently displayed on the field. When the Browns hosted the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, he appeared on NFL Network and gave former legendary WR Steve Smith Jr. a “necklace.”
Brownie the Elf is warned by Steve Smith Jr. to keep off his Jordans
Brownie’s only challenge was not stepping on Smith’s Jordans. maybe by stepping on them once. Once is enough to issue a serious warning. Or otherwise, don’t step on the tasty material on my feet.
Will Justin Herbert play for the Chargers? With a rib ailment, the quarterback has already demonstrated his ability to throw.
Like many Chargers supporters, Keenan Allen assumed things couldn’t be that awful when Justin Herbert returned to the field after missing just one play.
But a short while later, on third and 1, Herbert rolled to his right and, instead of running for the first down with room to spare, he feebly and awkwardly threw the ball into the Arrowhead Stadium turf to end the play.
The instant Herbert shattered his rib cartilage last week against Kansas City, Allen said on Thursday, “it didn’t look like a genuine injury because he landed on his butt.”
The throwaway on third down, though, led Allen to the conclusion that “OK, he must have a real problem.” He is in pain. He is undoubtedly in pain.
Allen was, in fact, a lot like the supporters of this club a week ago. He stayed at home and watched Chargers-Chiefs on television because he was unable to travel due to a hamstring ailment.
Allen was equally astounded when Herbert immediately followed the play that appeared to be the most meager in his brief NFL career with one that was the most spectacular.
Herbert successfully converted a fourth and one with a 35-yard gain by neatly dropping a rainbow deep over the middle into the waiting hands of DeAndre Carter.
Herbert gave the Chargers the opportunity to close the gap to 27-24 in the last two minutes by going from being unable to move at all to going far.
Allen remarked that the throw would have been impressive even if the player hadn’t been hurt. But it was greatly heightened because he was able to execute it with the game on the line and everything else going on.
Herbert has been surrounded by a lot of attention this week as he prepares to play against Jacksonville on Sunday at SoFi Stadium.
After being observed throwing a variety of passes during the part of the exercise that was open to the media on Thursday, Herbert was limited in practice for the second day in a row.
When the Chargers post their most recent injury report on Friday, his official designation for the game will be announced. Chase Daniel, a seasoned backup, is anticipated to start if Herbert is unable to play.
Given that Herbert didn’t attempt any throws on Wednesday during the time that media were allowed to watch practise, Thursday appeared to be a step in the right direction.
Carter remarked, “He plays with a lot of heart. “Man, I’d fight that guy in a battle any day of the week. I’m going to ride with him since he’s a fighter.
In the first 34 starts of his career, Herbert demonstrated a lot to the Chargers and the NFL. However, he debuted as a professional last week against the Chiefs, displaying an undeniable toughness in his ability to play despite injuries.
Herbert completed seven of nine passes for 73 yards and a touchdown on fourth down on the drive that followed his injury. He also connected with Joshua Palmer for a seven-yard touchdown.
One of Herbert’s old Oregon colleagues claimed that the performance was nothing new, despite the fact that many others had not seen Herbert excel in such trying circumstances.
Hunter Kampmoyer, a tight end, said it came as no surprise at all. “Since I’ve known him, he’s been doing it.”
Kampmoyer, who is currently on the Chargers practice squad, shared the Ducks with Herbert for three seasons.
Justin is just like that, said Kampmoyer. He has done that since his undergraduate days. He frequently sustained injuries like that and continued to play. That simply describes the kind of player and person he is.
Herbert only missed five games due to a broken collarbone in 2017, which was the only severe ailment he experienced while playing at Oregon. Through his first two or more seasons with the Chargers, he was able to maintain his health.
No teammates questioned Thursday expressed surprise at the tenacity Herbert demonstrated the previous week. Herbert, quarterbacks Drew Brees and Matthew Stafford, and offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi was dubbed “the three toughest individuals I have ever been around.”
Safety Derwin James Jr. referred to Herbert’s debut season, in which the quarterback took a number of significant blows after escaping the pocket.
James remarked, “Justin’s a tough kid.” He works out in the weight room hard. He is hardly what I would call a quarterback. In terms of labor, he does all the duties that a typical linebacker or receiver would.
You can let the guys know who it means a lot to, Carter said. Justin is that. He didn’t exactly teach me anything new, I’d say. However, it’s also one of those things that you can’t be certain of until you see it. Justin made a statement.
The Chargers figure to be playing without center Corey Linsley and maybe cornerback J.C. Jackson on Sunday, while Herbert’s condition is still unknown.
Due to a knee problem, Linsley was unable to play in Kansas City’s second half. This week while the media has been watching, he has not been on the practice field.
Jackson missed the Chargers’ season-opening game as he recovered from surgery on his right ankle. Then, in his 57 defensive snaps against the Chiefs, he declared he felt OK after the game.
Jackson, however, has not practiced for the past two days. Although he wasn’t working with the squad, he was on the field on Wednesday and Thursday.
Trey Pipkins III, the starting right tackle, Donald Parham Jr., the backup tight end, and Allen (hamstring) were all limited in practice.
