The career that many consider the best in tennis history appears to be coming to an end. After losing to Ajla Tomljanovic on Friday night 7-5, 6-7 (4-7), and 6-1, Serena Williams is no longer eligible for the 2022 US Open.

“She has done an amazing amount for both tennis and me. When I was a child watching her in all those finals, I never imagined I’d get the chance to compete against her in her final match. For me, this is a strange time.” Serena Williams was referred to as the greatest player of all time by Tomljanovic, who also discussed the influence of one of the most illustrious sportsmen in history.
