Red Bulls lose 2-0 to the Union, with Union scoring both goals

With a 2-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night, Daniel Gazdag scored his team-high 18th goal of the season, Mikael Uhre added his 11th, and the Philadelphia Union took the lead in the fight for the MLS Supporters’ Shield.

For the Union (17-4-9, 60 points), Jack McGlynn and Julian Carranza delivered the assists as they upset a Red Bulls team that finished with 10 men following a violent incident in which frustrated New York defender Dru Yearwood blasted the ball into the bleachers and struck a home supporter.

McGlynn was located by Gazdag from the left side of the field, and he popped the ball over a defender to gain space for a forwards move. To sprint onto McGlynn’s through ball and put a beautiful low finish inside the left post, Uhre outmuscled his defender.
In the 74th minute, Gazdag doubled the lead after pressure from Carranza forced a Red Bulls error. To start the half, Uhre and Carranza exchanged passes. The Hungarian international was then discovered, and in a career year, he completed the aim.
